LATVIA’S EQUAL FUTURES PARTNERSHIP COMMITMENTS

At the National Level

One of Latvia’s priority areas is realization of economic opportunities for women. Labor market segregation and the gender pay gap remains significant challenges. Therefore from 2016 till 2020, Latvia will specifically focus on women's economic empowerment, strengthening of economic independence of women and men as well as achievement of better balance between work and family life. In addition Latvia undertakes to strengthen its efforts in the field of elimination of domestic violence as it is an essential prerequisite for promotion of economic opportunities for women.

Furthermore Latvia will reinforce the fight against human trafficking and sham marriages. In the period from 2016 till 2020 Latvia will focus on identification and providing support for the victims of human trafficking and strengthening of the capacity of law enforcement agencies and competent partners to combat human trafficking and sham marriages, complementing the National Strategy for the prevention of human trafficking 2014 – 2020.

Internationally

Latvia has been a long-standing advocate for gender equality and women’s rights in international human rights fora. Latvia will continue to actively promote gender equality, including as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council until 2017 and through Latvia’s development cooperation policy.
